Sorry about all the crazy picture updates

Friends Family and anyone who has decided to read this...
The MTC only allows you to send like 3 or 4 pictures at a time in emails so that's why I had so many picture updates.
Last week there were some computer problems so I wasn't able to actually give you a full update.  My companion is Hermana Foster.  She is from Riverton Utah and my district has 3 sets of sisters and 3 sets of elders.  It's great!  We are like a family.  There are times when people argue and there are times when people cry.  There are times when you just really want a big group hug (but you can't because elders and sisters aren't allowed to hug) so instead we just do a big group prayer while we are all kneeling in a circle and I can feel the mental hugs coming to me.
We are district 40 A and there are 2 districts younger than us in the Zone (a district is like a family and a zone is like a ward or a group  of districts)  that means that we have had 2 districts come in since we came in and 2 districts leave as well so it's weird, we are no longer the youngest and we are the second oldest.
The MTC is really different from what I thought it would be.  I love it but it's different.  We spend almost all day sitting in a classroom learning the language or gospel principles and then we spend some of the time teaching people (investigators) the gospel, (they aren't real investigators, they are our teachers who pose as investigators)  we also do this think called TRC which is Teaching Resource Center which is where people volunteer to come in if they either want to help the missionaries, or if they are having a hard time during their life or whatever and they get taught by the missionaries and talk to the missionaries for about 20 minutes.  We started that for our first time this week (yesterday actually)  and it was such an amazing spirit.  The first person we saw was a student who was just having trouble with her roommates and having trouble being happy but we were able to connect so well with her and I think we were all helped during our conversation, the spirit was so strong in that room.  After we talked to a lady learning spanish and a lady who was learning english.  We are supposed to teach in spanish so we ended up basically having a spanglish lesson where I spoke most of the spanish and my companion translated.  These 2 ladies really just wanted to help the missionaries and I think that they were helped as well.
I know that we are all children of a loving Father in Heaven.  I know that even if you don't feel like you can, you can always pray to Him and He will answer because He loves each and every one of you.   I am not serving a mission to convert people to this church.  I am serving a mission, I am choosing to be a representative of Christ to invite others to come unto Christ.  If they get baptized that's great.  If they don't that's fine too, as long as they have become closer to Christ. When you become closer to Christ your life receives so many blessings and I know this is true because I have experienced it.  It's one thing to say I'm a member of a church, it's another thing to say I am converted unto Christ.
Love you all!  Thanks for all your support.  If you want to write me you can write me at:

T-minus 1 week!

Waiting to leave on a mission is kind of like life, or at least that's how it has felt for me.  I got my call clear back in November.  I was excited to see where I was going and when I would leave, what language I would speak.  When I found out I would be leaving in March my first thought was "wow, that's such a long wait, why can't it come faster I just want to leave!"  The first month slowly came and went, it felt like a year.  The next 3 months have gone by so quickly.  Don't get me wrong, I am excited to go but it just seems like it all just happened so fast.
In life, you are there in the per-mortal world (In the LDS church we know through modern-day revelation -communication from God-that we lived with God as intelligences before we came to this earth.) and you are waiting to see where you will go, what language you will speak, who you will be with and when you will go.  You get to earth and the first few years go by really slowly.  You just want to grow up.  You want to go out there and see the world, do things that you haven't done before.  Once you get older things seem to come and go so quickly and then it is time to go.  Time to leave this earth and begin a new journey.
I am so grateful for this opportunity to serve the Lord for 18 months of my life.  I happily dedicate that time to Him even though it means leaving family and friends and putting my life on hold for a bit.  I am so happy to do this because I know the church is true.  I know that God loves us and because He loves us he will not leave us a lone to figure out this life on our own.  Instead He not only sacrificed His son, our elder brother Jesus Christ so that we could repent and live with Him again but He has also given us prophets (people who are God's mouth piece on the earth) in this day and age.  This is the final dispensation (a period of time where at least one person contains the full priesthood-power and authority to act in God's name- on the earth) before the coming of Jesus Christ again to the earth.  This dispensation began when a 14 year-old boy named Joseph Smith went into the woods to pray.  When he prayed he saw God the Father and His son Jesus Christ.  They called him by name and God said, pointing to the other, "This is my beloved Son hear Him."  As Joseph listen he was told that all the churches at the time had parts of the truth but none had all of it.  There were always parts missing but that he would be the one to begin restoring the true church the church that is the same as the one that Jesus Christ established on the earth.  Later in another dream/vision, he received counsel of a book of golden plates hidden in a hill that he would eventually translate by the power of God to be the Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ.  This book contains the record of the people in the Americas and is evidence that Jesus Christ did not just appear to the people in Jerusalem but also to the people of the Americas.  This book is not a substitution for the bible but rather another testament of Christ.  We are Christians.  We know that you must accept Christ into your life and allow Him to change you.  We also know that just faith is not enough to return to live with God.  There are steps that one must take, with proper Priesthood Authority, to return to live with God.  This is not because we believe that God can't do these things on His own but rather that it shows a dedication to God.  Christ had to be baptized, and so do we.  We know that nothing can be done without God help.  We know that God is our eternal Father in heaven and that He has a body of flesh and bones.  We also know that God and Christ are separate beings and that the Holy Ghost/Holy Spirit is also a separate entity.  We know that we are lead and guided by a prophet of God similar to that of times of old like Moses and Noah and many others.  We love God.  We are Christans, and we are happy to share any information or answer any questions to the best of our abilities.  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is perfect, it's members however are not.  If you go to lds.org or mormon.org you can also find out a lot of information about us.  Another great resource are the missionaries.  They are those guys in suits with black and white name tags, often riding bikes or walking around.  The are the women who are also wearing those black and white name tags who are wearing skirts and are modestly dressed. If you want to get in contact with the missionaries please go to http://mormon.org/missionaries/
Thank you for reading.  I know the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true.  Not because I grew up with it (although that is true) but because I have come to the knowledge for myself and I invite anyone and everyone to do the same.
God loves you, I love you, continue in the faith or start the search with faith and an open mind.

February 22, 2013

For those of you who don't know I have been called to serve as a representative of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Des Moines Iowa Spanish speaking mission.  I enter the MTC (Missionary Training Center) on March 13, 2013 so 20 days from today and I am extremely excited.  Yesterday I was informed that I would be set apart as a missionary on Tuesday March 12th at 6:30pm and my brother would be released from his service as a missionary (He served in the Jackson Mississippi mission) that same night at 6:00pm.  I am so happy that we will be able to experience this together and that that we get to see each other before I leave.  The church is true.  God loves each and every one of us and I look forward to spreading the good news of the gospel to the people of Iowa.
